For starters, Liam started coughing during the night on Saturday and immediately I realized that this wasn't just an ordinary cough. I kept an eye on him Sunday, which was pretty easy, since he only wanted to be held. Each time I would try to lay him down for a nap, he woke up after five minutes, clearly tired but unable to sleep.
I took him to the doctor first thing this morning, and it turns out that he has Bronchiolitis, which is caused by RSV. As soon as she said,"RSV", my heart dropped. I have heard of many babies being hospitalized for that, or even worse.
Despite being sick, Liam is still his usual charming self. He was all smiles for the pretty nurse, and she commented that he was the only kid she's ever seen who tried to smile while having a tongue depresser in his mouth!
Being sick doesn't keep this little guy from smiling!(Taken today... 3 months old on Friday!)
Anyhow, he was given a nebulizer treatment at the pediatrician's office, which was just albuterol in the form of steam, that he breathed in. Painless and easy. He had fallen asleep in my arms, so that made the treatment much easier.When the doctor said she would also be sending me home with a machine, my heart dropped for the second time. A machine? That sounds like something you only use if a person is very sick! But we'll do whatever we have to for the little guy. It's so hard to see your baby sick...
What makes things ever harder is that we finally, after 7 years of living here, have decided to put our house up for sale. We signed with a realtor this weekend and are hoping to have things ready for an April 30th Realtor Open House. As you can imagine, we are scrambling to get everything ready in time.
As I drifted off to sleep last night, I was reminded of the last time we were in "frantic mode." It was the week leading up to our wedding. We spent many nights up past midnight doing the last minute preparations. Here we are again.
Wish us luck. We're going to need it.

So sorry about the RSV. My heart goes out to you. You are right it is scary. We had it when M was 3 mos. and J was 2 yrs old. What a miserable feeling as a mom...eh? We had a treatment in the office, but not a machine. Both now have inhalers which we only have used when they have had very bad colds, but that may be due to inherited asthma...no signs otherwise. Our doc said they are not sure if RSV causes a tendency towards asthma or whether kids who are asthmatic tend to be more susceptible to RSV. You are in our prayers...as always my old friend.
