We had planned to buy her one for her 5th birthday, but the perfect opportunity arose over the weekend so we jumped on it.
Dave had gone to look at a bike rack he found on Craigslist. As it turns out, the seller had just retired from owning a bike shop and had quite an inventory. While Dave looked around, Amanda spotted a 16" purple Hotrocks bike with training wheels.

Before you could blink, she was zipping all around. Dave called to tell me that she was doing great and asked what I thought about getting it now. I agreed that it made sense to just go ahead and get it. Why wait? With our Wisconsin trip coming up in August, summer would practically be over by the time she got home to ride it. This way, she can enjoy it and get some fresh air and exercise all summer long.
And that's exactly what she's been doing. It's a little strange to see her riding around on a 2 wheeler suddenly. She looks so grown up.
Because it's a little hard for Amanda to get the bike started in our sandy parking lot, she and Eva have devised a system. Eva pulls on the front to help her get started and when Amanda gives the cue, Eva lets go.
It seems like just yesterday she was pushing herself around in a little plastic car, legs barely long enough to reach the ground. And then there was the Big Wheel from Grandma Jo, where she could barely reach the pedals. And now we've advanced to training wheels.
Where oh where does the time go?
