Winter Storm Jonas

It looks like we may be dodging a bullet with this storm. Earlier this week, it sounded like we'd be in the 2 feet range for snowfall. We have since been downgraded to 4-8".  Now it sounds like it will mostly be staying to the south of us.


This morning, the ocean was churning and the sky looked ominous. From inside the house, I can hear the wind at a constant low rumble, much like the sound of ocean waves crashing up, and the snow has started.

We are in the narrow strip along the coast, and always get more snow because of the ocean effect. High winds (40-60 mph gusts) and coastal flooding are the main concerns, especially because of the full moon tonight. The generator has been moved into position and is ready in case we lose power.

On a positive note, Liam received some fun snow toys for his birthday, including a snow brick maker and snowshoes, so it looks like he will get a chance to use them!

Follow up: The kids went out out play nearly an hour ago. The snow is really coming down now, and the power has gone out twice - but came back on quickly. I have eight flashlights ready, and the iPads are charging to at least we can read Kindle books if we lose power. I just heard that Block Island had winds that hit 75 mph, hurricane force. 

Sunday: we lost power for half an hour, right after we had tucked the kids in. We woke up to about 4-5" so not too bad! Plenty to play in, and manageable with the snow blower. Hooray!
