Day 3 - Lake Placid and Tupper Lake

We left at 8 am, and headed southwest to Lake Placid, an hour away. 

The scenery was gorgeous.

We had been to Lake Placid once before, on our way to Wisconsin 6 years ago. In fact, we celebrated Eva's 2nd birthday there.  We made a point to drive past some of the places we remembered during that trip, and walked around a bit downtown.

Then we continued on to Tupper Lake to the Wild Center. I think this has been the highlight of the trip so far for everyone.

First we watched a movie about how the Wild Walk was designed and constructed. Our timing was perfect! It had opened just two weeks prior to our visit. It was very cool.

After a picnic lunch, we ventured inside to the museum. There were lots of interactive exhibits, live animals, a puzzle/book room and a Creativity/Imagination room.

Eva kept herself busy with the scavenger hunt, following clues to find the hidden golden otter. 

By the end, the family joined in and in the end, Amanda successfully located the golden otter statue.

We did some easy hiking trails, one of which led to an outdoor play area and some scenic overlooks.

Building a teepee 

For dinner, we went to Texas Roadhouse for the first time. The kids just couldn't comprehend how it was okay to throw the peanut shells on the floor! I told them not to get used to it...
